North & South Nilandhoo Atoll
Only recently opened to tourism these neighboring atolls feature several long barrier reefs as well as fringing reef split by mnay channels. Both atolls offer pristine landscapes both onland and underwater.
The larger of the two atolls, South Nilandhoo is 23km (14 miles) wide and 38km (24 miles) long. There are two shipwrecks located off of the southern tip of the atoll "Liffey" who sunk in 1879 and the "Utheemu I" which sunk in 1960.
North Nilandhoo is 27km (17 miles) wide and 30km (19 miles) long. Since the atoll was opened to tourism in 2000 many virtually untouched exquiste dive sites have been found.
